It's goin' to be Halloween, so I played some Halloween games recently on NES/FC like Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti, etc. I love all of them, they're truly awesome, though it's not so horror. Oh, if you hunt for some TRUE horror games on NES/FC, pick up an unlicensed light-gun shooting game called Chiller, it's even a little nasty for some people, 8-bit games never let you down. But this time, I wanna talk about something fantastic indeed, that is, SPLATTERHOUSE series.
I damn love this logo, it reminds me of a logo of a great band, Mushroomhead, just check it.
They really resemble each other.
Well, I'm not so familiar with the new PS3/XBOX 360 title, but I beat the first four ones except the arcade and FM Towns version indeed.
mmm, there are some history stories about this awesome, if you're interested in, please click this, everything you need is here.

I'm going to review something for you.
The first title I played is TurboGrafx/PCE version. It's a pity that I didn't own this game though I had a PCE in my childhood. (If I have, I may become a metalhead earlier I think...) I'm tough at beat 'em up games, so I didn't check this when I was working for other emulators. But when I saw some Youtube reviewers who I love to watch did some reviews (especially HVGN/SSFF's admin Derek Alexander), I though I was a nerd (yeah, I AM A NERD).
You will know how awesome it is, there's even a comic-style flyer and inner case for the TurboGrafx version exclusively!
It's brutal, cruel and gory for sure. Use your bat, iron stick and the most awesome weapon in the series, shotgun! Blow your enemies' heads!
I prefer PCE version by the way, the mask is white instead of red color, it's like Jason from Friday the 13th but nope, the main hero of Splatterhouse name's Rick.
This photo is Jason, both of them are strong and wearing a white mask. So, Splatterhouse is apparently a game made by horror movie fans for horror gamers.
Yep, you should find your way to save your girlfriend. When you reach the room that your girlfriend kidnapped, you realize she turns into a monster. Then you fight for revenge now. Finally, the WTF monster is fxxked up by you, here's the end.
The first two titles are nearly the same control and fighting style.
Splatterhouse II is on Sega Genesis/Mega Drive only, thankfully it's a great game too.
The biggest problem is actually, the difficulty, it's as hard as shxt. If you think the first one is tough, then this one will be the nightmare.
The difficulty score for the first one I give would goes to 6.5/10, then the second would be 8/10.
See that? Now you have a chainsaw as a new weapon, it surely helps you out. Cut up the monsters' flesh! Yeah~ Violent happy~
Look at the fattie lol. No no no, I should be serious...
Now you think this would be the end of the series with two beat 'em up? You'll be shocked by the third one,
Splatterhouse III!
Now Rick is more powerful with the help of his evil mask, you could transform into a strong warrior if you replenish your energy meter.
The cut scenes are awesome too, you should definitely check them.
And there's also a time limit. If you couldn't save your girlfriend and the boy within the time limit, you'll enter the bad end, but it's still the truth that you beat the game. Just a different ending screen and the real final battle with your mask, the true boss. The evil mask try to conquer the world too, so you have to fight him too.
There're several rooms, just differentiate from the previous two titles, you needn't fight in every single room, and it's impossible.
When you pause the game, check the map and get the shortest way to the boss is your only strategy to enter the good end.
Do not lose your weapon this time, cuz your weapon would be steal by the ghost if you get hit once when you hold the weapon.
The difficulty score for this one is 9/10, cuz there's time limit. You really need to beat more than one monster at the same time in order to save time.
As for the Splatterhouse Wanpaku Graffiti on FC, it's just a spin-off of the series, nothing related to the original story line at all, but it's still fun to play, and it's not so difficult. And it's very cute. Some scenes just don't make any sense, cuz it's just a movie, nothing real, well, a bad movie lol.
You're just an actor starring Rick along the way to fight for your girlfriend just like the three titles, and the final boss is Pumpkin King. This is truly about Halloween, isn't it?
You're not alone this time, cuz you have your machete just like Jason! Of course there are shotguns, you could kill mutiple enemies on the screen just like a bomb! Am I playing a SHMUP game?
Oh, how cute it is!
Fight the monsters and get the EXP, you'll get a longer health meter.
LMFAO
Finally, what you should remember is,
DON'T FORGET TO USE TURBO FIRE BUTTONS.
If not, your fingers would hurt I'm fxxkin' serious.
to be continued...
