嘛潜水党看到区里很多基友因为英语而头疼撸主也心疼
撸主不会告诉你们撸主也有一大段时间因为英语寝食难安（泥垢..）

后来发现双语读物竟是帮助我们学习英语的天然尤物
话说如果是用英文看描写中国的读物妹纸跟汉纸们是不是会更有兴趣的呢丫鲁？

呐、撸主是标题党的说就华丽丽的被这本书的标题吸引来了
废话不多说（喂、你说的够多了）
好吧那有需要的童鞋每天记得看一眼娱乐娱乐哟

顺便撸主学了2年日语4年多韩语虽然说英语okay程度>韩语>日语
但是按兴趣排名的话应该是韩语>日语>英语。。。
默默说一句...中文就忽略了吧...
不钟意棒子们的童鞋请唔笑俄 lol
可以说最后这一段只是为了勾搭基友么？

中国人的“注册商标”

"Trademarks" of the Chinese

序（一）
“民族主义”或“种族主义”，在二次大战以来一直被视为带点危险的名词。它们似乎意味着偏见、排外，甚至无休无止的战争杀伐。

Preface (1)
  Since World War Two "nationalism" and "racialism" have been seen as dangerous words bearing connotations of prejudice, chauvinism and even warmongering.

  战后的四十余年来，世界在两大强权的对峙下，却在廿世纪的最后，走向分久必合的趋势。两德统一之外，各种以大洋、地域为基础的经济圈、共熔体等说法甚嚣尘上，其中最有具体行动的，当然包括德国在内，欧洲十二国所组成的欧洲共同体。多年来，他们不断寻求政治、经济统一的可能性，甚至文化政策也要互通有无。

  The world has been divided into two camps since 1945, and it is only in these last years of the twentieth century that there has arisen a new tendency to overcome lasting divisions. Apart from the reunification of Germany, there are also a number of spheres of economic cooperation coming into being, the most concrete of which is the single market of the twelve member states of the European Community. The Europeans have been relentlessly pursuing the possibilities of political and economic union for years, and in the field of culture there is also to be much mutual assistance.

  在共同体的前提下，欧洲人处心积虑创造未来的共识：汽车上贴着“我爱欧洲”小贴纸，各种增进相互了解的电视节目纷纷出笼。去年，一群来自十二国的历史学者，共聚一堂，打算出版一本前所未有的“欧洲观点的历史教科书。”问题就出来了。

  In pursuit of unity, the Europeans have been busy attempting to create some kind o common knowledge, with car stickers proclaiming "I love Europe" and a stream of television programs promoting mutual understanding. Problems arose, however, when a group of historians from the Twelve came together last year to plan a history book written from a "European perspective."

  当年差一点就“统一欧洲”的拿破仑，是人人愤慨的野心侵略家或是浪漫运动中的大英雄？为英国打败西班牙无敌舰队的迪瑞克船长，是功勋彪炳的爵士，或是杀人不见血的大海盗？方才统一的德国又如何在两次大战的阴影下，让欧洲人接受他们的历史解释？
  这时候“民族观点”不知不觉的取代了“欧洲观点”，民族性因此又成热门话题。电视节目、报章专栏、专书充满了这样的主题。很显然，英国人拘谨、法国人浪漫、德国人精确... ... 之类的刻板印象，已经满足不了这一波的民族寻根热。

  Was Napoleon Bonaparte, once unifier of nearly all Europe, an ambitious expansionist or a hero of the Romantic movement? Was Sir Francis Drake, England's vanquisher of the Spanish Armada, a knight of great distinction or a ruthless pirate? Still under the shadow of two world wars, how could the reunited Germans interpret history in a way that is acceptable to other Europeans? National viewpoints unconsciously came to supplant the "European" point of view, and national characteristics have become the topic of the day on television, in newspaper columns and in books. Such stereotypes as the restrained British, the romantic French and the meticulous Germans are obviously no longer enough to satisfy this fervent searching for the roots of nations.

2. 翻译赏析
翻译的段落中很多的句型排序等都跟原文不一样，而且简洁干净的词语不会让人读起来觉得拖泥带水比如说第一段的最后一句话：它们似乎意味着偏见、排外，甚至无休无止的战争杀伐。这句话也可被译为： These seem to mean prejudice, chauvinism, and even endless wars. 但是不用they seem to mean而是 ... and ... have been seen as更加地道，而且一个warmongering不仅把endless wars包含了还给这句话提高了一个档次。

累了.. 先睡了。。。有问题的话提出再解决，明天继续更虽然没有什么人的说

  冬天要“进补”；结婚最好合合“八字”；练“内胆气功”为了养生；供奉“牌位”以慎终追远... ..., 这些属于中国人生活中独到的生活方式、习俗，究竟缘何而来？有什么样的文化背景与内涵？何以流传至今？

Fortifying ourselves in winter with special tonic foods (chin-pu), matching the Chinese horoscopes (pa-tzu) fo prospective mates before marrying, practicing special breathing exercises (nei-tan ch'i kung) for our health, maintaining sacred tablets (p'ai-wei) to our ancestors . . . just how did these customes and practices peculiar to the Chinese arise? What is their background and meaning? And why do they continue to be observed even today?

  对大多数人而言，他们毋宁只是约定俗成的结果，未必知其所以。本刊为此特别推出《中国人的“注册商标”系列报道》，并请中央研究院院士李亦园教授，对中国人的种种特征作一整体概述。

  Most of us accept them simply as the result of habit, without delving any further. "Trademarks" of the Chinese is designed to find out more. To start the series off, we've invited Li Yih-yuan of Academia Sinica characteristics of the Chinese people.

  "光华"要我漫谈中国人的“注册商标，”我觉得“注册商标”并不是最合适的名词；我想我只能把中国人的特征或生活中较富特色的行为作一些漫谈，也许可以从体质外形、服饰和信仰三方面来说，其中信仰及其行为方面也要多谈一些。

  Sinorama has asked me to talk about the "trademark features of the Chinese," although I don't feel that that is necessarily the most suitable term. All I can do is discuss some of their more characteristic features and ways of behaviour, which can perhaps best be addressed in the three aspects of physical appearance, dress and beliefs, paying the most attention to beliefs and behaviour.

  在外形方面，严格来说中国人应属“蒙古种人，”它是世界三个主要人种之一，其他两种分别是“尼格罗种，”俗称黑人；高加索种人，俗称白人。

  As for physical appearance, Chinese people belong to the Mogoloid race, one of the three main races in the world along with Negroid and Caucasoid..

  中国人本属蒙古族

  蒙古种人与中国人外形最重要的体质特征是：低平的鼻子、向前而突出的颧骨、较突出的眼窝、直而质地较粗的黑发、黄皮肤、杏仁眼（俗称凤眼）... ..., 主要和次要特征约有十三个，这正是中国人最明显的特征，在另文中可做一较完整之叙述。

  The most important physical characteristics of the Mondoloid race are flat noses, prominent cheekbones, rather prominent eye sockets, straight black hair, tawny skin and slanted, or almond-shaped, eyes. There are thirteen major and minor characteristics in all, which will be examined in more detail in another article.

  此外，中国人的服饰，也是一种特色，外国人总认为我们中国式的复试是瓜皮小帽、长袍马褂，外加一条长长的辫子，其实呢？这中间可谈的也真不少，在日后的系列中可以仔细再谈。

  Another characteristic feature is clothing. Foreigners have always considered typical Chinese-style attire to consist of a skullcap and a scholar's gown, plus a long pigtail, but what is the reality? It is a subject with much scope for discussion and will be explored in detail in a later article.

  在信仰方面，中国人的宗教信仰是非常复杂的，自然不容易把它说清楚。但是归根究底而言，中国人对宇宙万物存在的信念乃是基于追求最终的“和谐均衡”，也就是“天人合一的概念。”
  这种和谐均衡的概念大致表现在三个层次上，我们如从这三个层次去观察，就很容易看出中国人的行为特点。我所说的三个和谐均衡的层次是：个人的、社会的和自然的。

  The beliefs of the Chinese people are extremely complicated and not easy to explain clearly. But in the final analysis, their thinking abou texistence and the world around them boil down to a search for harmony and balance, or the unity of man and heaven. This concept of harmony and balance is expressed on three planes, from which it is easy to observe the behavioral characteristics of the Chinese people. The three planes are those of the individual, of nature and of society.

2. 翻译赏析

对大多数人而言，他们毋宁只是约定俗成的结果，未必知其所以。
这句话也可被译为： To most people, the result is more of a habit than knowing the reasons.
而译文为 Most of us accept them simply as the result of habit, without delving any further. 这句是整句话更为连贯、通顺，同时“对大多数人而言”被译为“我们有很大一部分人都接受..”原因是原句隐含了被动的语气，所以我们是“接受了”而非直白的翻译，这样更能表现出句中主谓宾之间的关系。

  下面可就这三方面来谈：
  在个人的层次上，和谐与均衡的追求又可分为内在与外在两方面，特别是从饮食延伸到医药上表现最明显。

  At the level of the individual, the search for harmony and balance can be divided into internal and external aspects and is expressed most clearly in the fields of diet and medicine.

  由于中国人注重内在和外在的“个体均衡”，因此也力求“阴阳”两种力量的均衡，这影响到中医中药“冷、热”的观念。例如黄连性属大寒，可以解毒、去火气；冬天吃姜母鸭以进补，这都以“阴阳调和”为出发点。
  此外，食物也有相冲之说，例如蜂蜜不可和毛蟹一起食用，“有毒！”而中国人也把水果分为“冷、热”之性，如橘子性冷，胃不好的不能多吃；荔枝属热，吃多了容易上火... ... 民间对食物都给予冷、热或“平”的性质判断，没一个人要维持健康，就得维持冷热实物的均衡。其实这些并不完全是真的，但是很多人都相信。

  As part of this way of thinking, Chinese people strive to maintain a balance within the individual between the forces of yin and yang (the dual principles of male and female, or positive and negative), which have influenced the concepts of hot and cold in Chinese food and medicine. The root of Chinese goldthread, for instance, is considered "cold" and can relieve internal heat, while ginger duck is considered "hot" and a fortifying dish in the winter. Certain foods are also said to "clash" with other foods and to produce harmful effect when eaten together. None of this may be completely true, but many people believe it all the same.
